We’d like to share a touching story about a recent service we conducted for a young man who passed away tragically. The young man’s parents came to our funeral home feeling uncertain about the specifics of the service. They were unsure if they wanted a traditional funeral or a memorial, as they didn’t attend church often and weren’t sure about the best way to honor their son. During our conversation, I asked them to tell me more about their son. They shared that he was a huge Star Trek fan, often finishing conversations with a Star Trek quote. This love for Star Trek was a common thread in their family and had become a part of their family reunions and gatherings. I suggested that we could center the service around these Star Trek quotes, making it a unique and personal tribute. The idea resonated with them, and we explored how to incorporate Star Trek into the service.
